Like so much in Pete’s life this happened by accident. He was working on a re-enactment event one weekend, and noticed that none of the clergy were carrying prayer books or bibles. Why not?
The answer was very simple. Early books look very different from modern books as they are hand bound using different materials.
So Pete’s personal fascination with old books has lead to the obvious solution. He learnt how to make them them himself!
As well as supplying re-enactors, Pete has been commissioned to make many authentic style books for the Royal Palaces, English Heritage and the National Trust, and his work is on display in the Tower of London, Hampton Court, Dover Castle and many museums throughout the UK.
As well as this, his books are frequently used as props in historical documentaries -and even some major films, such as “The Da Vinci Code”!
All the texts are thoroughly researched and bound in an authentic mediaeval (ie pre-Tudor) style and this area of study has taken him to yet more fascinating places such as Prague, Bamberg and the ancient book-binding city of Nuremberg.
